The Modern Bride's Guide to Choosing a Lehenga
Colour, weight and movement: what to think about before the first fitting.
By Mira Sen

Choosing a wedding lehenga is exciting and, for many brides, overwhelming. A few questions asked early make the decision much easier.
Start with the venue and the season. Heavy embroidery and velvet suit a winter evening; lighter silks and organza work for a daytime or outdoor ceremony.

Questions to ask your designer
Think about movement. You will walk, sit, dance and be photographed from every angle. Try a sample on and move around in it before deciding.
“Choose the lehenga you can dance in. You'll be doing a lot of it.”
Colour is personal. Red remains a favourite, but rust, rose, ivory and deep green are increasingly popular choices.
Leave time for at least two fittings, and bring the shoes you plan to wear.
