The New Red: How One Lipstick Shade Became the Season's Signature
Not quite brick, not quite berry — the red everyone is wearing this autumn is deeper and softer than before.

Every few seasons, a single lip colour seems to appear everywhere at once. This year it is a muted, wine-tinged red somewhere between brick and berry.
Part of its appeal is how forgiving it is. A bright red demands precision; this shade can be pressed on with a fingertip and still look deliberate.

Finding your version
Look for a satin finish rather than a flat matte. Test it on a fingertip, where the colour is closer to your lips than the back of your hand.
“A deep red is the quickest way to look finished with almost no effort.”
Keep the rest of the face simple: brushed-up brows, a little mascara and skin that looks like skin.
